It was the end of summer and after the first rain, we decided to explore Konkan till Goa. We started our ride from Pune. It was our regular road till Tamhini ghat and it was very much familiar for us. Pune city didn’t enjoy the first rain as expected. The land was still dry as we came out of the city. As suggested by a senior biker, monsoon is the best season for a long bike ride like Goa route.
As we reached, it was still foggy. Tamhini ghat never let you down with its natural scenic beauty. It was drizzling somewhere down in the Konkan. Because of which, the whole atmosphere was pleasant. After the first rain, the smell of the soil was making me more eager to taste it or have it completely. But, I didn’t, just enjoyed the smell and marched ahead for Goa Bike Ride.
It’s a very beautiful fort that we explored along with the lighthouse. We stayed at the sea touch lighthouse area i.e. cottages of local workers which were worth than any other hotel stay. More importantly, didn’t cost a single penny. Guard was so friendly, he ordered some fresh fish for the night. He really made our first dinner of Goa Bike ride memorable.
On the way, we took a halt when we saw the breathtaking view of Janjira fort. A coastal road trip just started and we were happy because it was a more beautiful journey than what we imagined while planning out the route for Goa bike ride.
First time in my life, I parked my bullet on the ferry and crossed the creek. We were completely unaware of what this bike ride is going to offer in the next few days.
The ferry dropped us to Dighi port and we started exploring coastal route along with the virgin beaches. Empty roads, greenery, and sea view was the best combination for the day.
Stay in the Fishing boat
We asked fishermen for a stay in his beautiful parked boat cum shack. In favor, he just asked for a packet of cigarette. Another beautiful night stay of a bike ride, that too without any cost, almost zero.
We explored many roads, Waterfalls, villages, beaches. Everywhere, we wanted to stay for a night and enjoy the beauty, the laid back attitude of Konkan was asking us to just chill in nature. But, we had a very tight bike ride schedule.
On our 3rd Day of Bike Ride, we enjoyed our morning ride but we hardly covered any KMs as it was raining heavily.
We spent some time on a very beautiful Anjarle beach. I tried a few snaps on the beach while raining.
We went to Ketki beach resort. It was beach facing property. We enjoyed the sunset. Undoubtedly, It was costlier to stay as compared to our budget.
Best Home Stay of Bike Ride
True Traveler always looks for the best budget option for stay. As we explored, we came across a homestay. Due to heavy rainfall, they have slanted roofs. Wall is built with the red bricks called “Chire“. It was our dream homestay at just Rs. 100 per person and host was so sweet that they offered unlimited Fish Thali at Rs. 60 only. We enjoyed a lot as fisherman told us that this will be the last fish that they will eat. Mostly, they avoid fish during monsoon.
Finally, we crossed the border and entered into Goa. We explored few stay options at Baga and Calangute and chose a beautiful Blue Row house to enjoy a 2-night stay in Goa. In the evening we explored the beach, shacks and more important various newly opened Bars. We were tired a bit after a long bike ride but the excitement was high as usual.
We spent some time on Aguada Fort, it was our relaxing day. However, we were fresh too after riding so much. We discussed a plan for the return journey as well. My friend got a new “Che Guevara” tee, then I came to know about that guy. Then I also purchased a similar t-shirt as a memory of Goa bike ride.
Sunset & Beaches
After exploring South Goa & Panaji on a bike, we also planned for Dudhsagar trek but due to short of time, we spent our last evening on the beach. We thought to focus on a bike ride instead of getting involved in another adventure. We clicked and captured memories on the beaches of Goa once again. Nobody was ready to start the return bike ride.
I hate return journey but there was no other option. Just to make return journey more beautiful we decided to explore new route i.e to enter Kolhapur via Phonda ghat. We had heard a lot about it and today came the day to explore Phonda ghat on the bike.
Return Bike Ride to Pune
We enjoyed hill ride though Phonda ghat. Most of the part was covered with the fog. It was a thick forest on both sides of a road. Riding through any ghat with such amazing weather is the dream of any biker.
After a long bike ride, we took a halt at a beautiful waterfall. Got freshened up with the natural freshwater and rested for some time in nature.
After the bath in the waterfall, we got a much-needed drink of India i.e. Hot Tea with Bhajiya.
Without further ado, we reached Kolhapur where my friend arranged a stay at his best friends place. Overall, Goa bike tour was cost crunched and we managed to return Pune within our budget. Do share your road trips if any. I will be more happy to know your journeys and ways of cost savings.
