There are many unique experiences that Small Steps Adventures regularly offers to their customer base and such interesting event was – Midnight Cycling in Mumbai. I booked with the help of Ravi – 7738073691. I received confirmation mail with all details. They provide both Gear & non-geared cycles for both men and women. One can choose from the available options, if you reach early to the start point of Cycling in Mumbai.
I reached Colaba, South Mumbai which was the start point by 10:30 PM. Group leader welcomed participants and marked the attendance. Within half an hour, all participants gathered for cycling in Mumbai event and group leader shared important rules and instructions to follow while cycling in Mumbai. It was 22 KM cycle ride start from Colaba to Bandstand in Bandra. After the introduction, we got our cycles along with energy drink and snacks. As per the mail, I had brought small backpack to carry bottles and snacks only.
Start of the Event – Cycling in Mumbai
By 11:20 PM, we started our Midnight cycling in Mumbai. After Nilesh, who was our leader, one by one we geared up and started following him. We were riding on the same road from where I reached the start point by Taxi. But, it was shocking for me to notice surrounding old restaurants and their architecture. Then I realize how much we get involved into our cell phones and miss many things.
Positive Vibes during cycling in Mumbai
Then I started noticing Mumbai, Road and the real nightlife on wheels where I can’t have cell phone in my hand. Though it was night, city was still awake and more surprisingly I felt the energetic vibes on roads of Mumbai. It was colourful and happening at midnight. With so many thoughts in my mind, we reached Getway of India. We enjoyed cool breeze by the bay. There were many sailing boats parked near the jetty. Sailing in Mumbai is again a unique experience, Nilesh shared with us. After 5 Minutes break, we explored Library, fort area and reached VT or CSMT station.
CSMT station was the best architectural marvel that I saw during midnight cycling in Mumbai. We also saw well illuminated building of Municipal Corporation of Mumbai which was standing tall just next to CSMT.
Moving ahead, we reached most awaited and happening place at night i.e. Marine drive. Looking at the crowd enjoying the seashore you won’t believe that it’s night time. We also parked our cycles and started photography session. This was the best part of cycling in Mumbai.
Leader of Cycling in Mumbai
Nilesh was a nice leader; he knew the route, halt point. He was leading smartly and had tremendous patience to handle group queries. We took halt for washroom, much needed break for girls. Then came a point where you need to apply efforts. Bridge before Peddar Road was Everest for few but I used gears smartly and with the little efforts crossed the bridge. Later, I enjoyed the downhill cycle ride.
We explored Haji Ali & Worli Sea face one after another. There were Police barricade for routine road checking. Mumbai Police was really active at night and our group felt very safe.
Cycling in Mumbai- Photography session
There were many people who asked us who organized this event of cycling in Mumbai and how to register for the same. It was really interesting event which attracted many people on the way. There were few cycling enthusiast apart from our Small Steps Adventure Mumbai cycling group. Cycling on rent must be common in Mumbai, I thought. I confirmed with them that they have taken cycles on rent for night by paying INR 1000. To my surprise, we have paid the same amount for the event and had many inclusions in addition to a cycle.
Now, we crossed Siddhivinayak Temple and Matunga. I observed that Mumbai is the city that never sleeps. Shops in Matunga were open. We purchased water bottle and some energy bars. After sometime, we reached Love Mumbai point. Next, Bandra was the last lap of cycling in Mumbai.
With 15 minutes break, we started our last lap of cycling. Everyone was exhausted but end point was about to come. We explored Mount Mary Church and also took many pictures at Bandra Worli Sea-link.
At 4:30 AM, we reached Bandstand – the end point. We sat on the Bandstand and had amazing tea to end the trip. Immediately, Nilesh called up a Tempo to put all Cycles and returned them to the start point. We had one last group photo at Bandstand.
To summarize, it was amazing ride with amazing people in amazing Mumbai. Cycling in Mumbai was a unique experience and had lifetime memories of cycling in Mumbai.
