The rainy season just started and the plan was to trek near Mumbai. Finally, Korigad fort was selected for trekking in Lonavala, Aamby valley region due to a scenic location. Korigad trek is one of the easy treks near Mumbai and Pune. Do read Lonavala-tourist travel guide if you are interested in exploring in and around the city.
Journey till Korigad fort
On Sunday, early morning we left for Korigad Trek. Journey took more than expected due to weekend traffic on the express highway. We reached to base village of Korigad fort trek around 10 in the morning. The base village is Peth Shahapur. Korigad fort is located 25 km from Lonavala.
We had heavy Breakfast at the base village before starting Korigad Trek. Awesome hot Poha chutney along with few toppings was served. It was tasty, also the weather was making it tastier. It was drizzling continuously. As it was our first trek of the season so the enthusiasm was high.
Korigad trekking Instructions
Our trek leaders introduce and gave all of us proper instructions for trekking. They also requested us to not take selfies on the edges as it’s very risky on Korigad fort top. Korigad trek is very easy but the edges of the top plateau are a bit scary at times.
Finally, the trek started. Forest trail starts from the electric tower. One needs to walk around the base of fort till the stairs. Stairs were in good condition and take you to the top plateau of Korigad fort in half an hour.
Special thanks to Aamby Valley City for maintaining steps till the top of the Korigad fort. We reached the halfway, from where Sahara City was visible. There was a cave with a water tank inside. Beside cave, the old entrance gate of the fort was in a dilapidated state.
It was misty trekking trail of Korigad trek. On the way, while trekking rain started. It was completely fun to trek during the drizzle. Water flow on steps made our Korigad trek more interesting and memorable.
Amazing weather during Korigad Trek
Soon we reached Ganesh Darwaja i.e. last entrance gate of Korigad fort. Everyone reached the top of the fort. It was so windy and cold on top that one can’t stand against the wind flow. But, everyone was enjoying the same. Monsoon treks in Lonavala are planned to enjoy such a climate.
Korigad fort exploration
To our surprise, it was a big plateau at the top of the fort. After ascending Korigad trek, we started exploring along the edges as per the instructions of a trek leader.
It was a mesmerizing view of Aamby valley from the top.
Flag and Bastion
The bastion which was visible from the base village of Korigad standing strong for many years.
After trying to capture many pictures in foggy weather, the team moved along the edge. It was completely walk on the edge.
Iconic waterfall of Korigad Trek
Much awaited, waterfall view was visible. The whole sight was a feast to the eyes. Approximately, we spent 15 minutes around that point just to capture the best pic but no one got a better picture as expected.
There were two lakes adjacent to each other at the center of Korigad plateau. Both were risky and so no one was allowed to enter into it for swimming. Beside the lake, there was Korai Mata temple.
We came across 5-6 Cannons during Korigad fort trekking in Lonavala. We also were able to notice one small runway across the base village of Korigad fort.
