As a travel blogger, I have personally searched and visited the places around Mumbai. To my surprise, I found many unique places for camping near Mumbai. In last few years, concept of camping is getting more famous. Though some say it’s a budget stay option but the overall experience is altogether different and can’t even be compared with the 5 star hotels & resorts. Also, everyone is now bored with typical resort party or restaurant dinner for the weekend. Most of the young crowd prefers to go for adventure camping as a weekend getaway. Overall, adventure industry is spreading its root across India. 

11 places for camping near Mumbai

I have been to all listed locations. All are my favourite as every campsite offers something unique experience to campers. Don’t follow the order as I have listed down randomly.

 

  1. Pawna Lake Camping

Pawna lake is man-made dam built with the intention to supply water to Pimpri-Chinchwad (extended Pune). Importantly, it is located in scenic Lonavla region which is the most preferred picnic destination around Mumbai and Pune. Pawna Camp organises various events throughout the year including New Year Celebration, Holi Celebration, Musical Camping etc. Also, it’s a best place for Corporate team outing. Having discussion with owner, I got the information that people even celebrate birthday, valentine day and do bachelor party as well. During mid winter, temperature touches 11℃.

Activities – Kayaking, Pedal boat, Motor boat, Swimming with life jackets, Rifle Shooting, Archery

Have you thought of staying in jungle? Do you like off-beat places and experiences? If yes, this is the place for you. Less than 100 km from Mumbai, it offers you smooth and comfortable drive till the campsite. Moreover, Magic forest campsite is actually developed amidst forest with many adventure activities to play around for adults as well as kids. In the evening, one can walk to the Riverside area to enjoy nature and peace. Meanwhile, Manager shared few stats like they have capacity of 250 pax to cater big corporate and groups. Mumbai people really like to enjoy nature and it gets huge response on weekends. I was amazed to see DCC challenge that they have designed only for corporate team building games.

Kolad is famous for its unique activity i.e. White Water Rafting. Recently, it is gaining fame for the adventure & waters ports activities as well. Undoubtedly, it is the biggest adventure hub near Mumbai & Pune. Most of the MNC’s plan overnight team outing for Kolad. Luxurious Shamiyana Tent Stay was altogether a different experience than normal camping. There are attached toilet and bathroom.

It was dream come true, when I pitched tent on the beach. Place is closed to the beach amidst Coconut trees and within a seconds you can access a beach. It was a slightly developed campsite to provide basic amenities like toilet and washroom. Most importantly, food was amazing. I enjoyed the local Konkani dish of Non-Veg curry and bhakri. Campfire & BBQ with soothing sound of waves helped me to enjoy more Beer. Similar Revdanda Beach Camping is also a good option.

Activities – Local Fishing Boat Ride (15 mins)

  1. Lohgad Valley Camping

 Lohgad is beautiful fort in Lonavala region and attracts more tourist from Mumbai and Pune. It takes 15-20 minutes to reach top of the fort and approx one hour to explore fully. There is always a strong and cold wind flow at the top. Pawna dam, Tikona fort along with the Tung can be spotted. Commanding view from Lohgad will blow your mind. Camping is not allowed on fort but there is a valley between Lohgad and Visapur fort which is thrilling chilled at night and makes a better & safe place for camping.

  1. Prabalmachi Trek & Camping

 Prabalmachi is the plateau accessible after 1 hour trek near Panvel. Night trek and camping at Prabalmachi is the most famous locations for trek and camping near Mumbai. Base village is 25 km away from the Panvel. At night, sitting on the edge, I was looking at the magical view of Navi Mumbai. To my relief, there was a common washroom and toilet.

  1. Bhatsa Riverside Camping near Mumbai, Thane

Bhatsa Riverside Camping

Bhatsa Riverside Camping

Yet close to the city but amidst the lap of nature, campsite is situated on the bank of Bhatsa River. Moreover, Bhatsa River flows throughout the year. In addition, tall Teak trees make good ambiance for Camping. Owner told us that many people come here for bird photography. Though the swimming in the river is not allowed, evening was beautiful by the river.

It is located in Nashik region. Bhandardara is a huge lake, also known as Arthur Lake. It is famous for its pristine beauty. The dam wall is clearly visible before entering campsite. The whole region comes under Harischandragad-Kalsubai wildlife Sanctuary. Mostly, people come from Nagar, Nasik & Mumbai for overnight Camping and trekking. Furthermore, lake is surrounded with many hiking places like Kalsubai, Ratangad, AMK, Sandhan Valley.

It is a fort with huge plateau on top and located besides Amby Valley in Lonavala. Initially, Korigad trek route goes through a forest. Afterward, there are steps built till the top which makes it easy and good trek for beginners. During fort camping, avoid drinking and smoking, strict rule mentioned by SSA.
